Christian Dell (1893–1974) was a German silversmith and designer, trained in Weimar, where he studied with pioneers of Art Nouveau.
In the 1920s, he became head of the metal workshop at the Frankfurt Academy of Fine Arts, where he shifted his focus from silver to lamp design.
His collaboration with Gebr. Kaiser & Co. led to the iconic KAISER idell series, with the 6631 Luxus model becoming a design classic in 1936.
The name "idell" refers to Idea and Dell.
After the war, he opened a jewelry workshop in Wiesbaden, where he worked until 1955.
Today, his legacy lives on through Fritz Hansen, which still produces the Kaiser Idell collection.
